Residents of the Chelyabinsk region have chosen the name for the U19 European Women’s Water Polo Championships mascot – the sunny girl-ball will be called Uralochka.

Online voting was held at the official website of the Championships. The highest number of points (43%) got name Uralochka. The sunny girl-ball also could be called Zlata (34%) or Polya (23%).


U19 Women’s European Water Polo Championships is only a month away. The tournament will take place in Chelyabinsk, Russia, on September 9-16. Those who want to be a part of the sports spectacular can already purchase tickets and official merchandise.

Russian Women’s Water Polo Team featuring South Urals athletes Sofia Konukh and Olga Belova has beaten Italy scoring 7:4 in the second match of the water polo preliminary round at 2012 Summer Olympic Games.  

This time there was no ding-dong fight. By the end of the second quarter team Russia was leading 2:1. Russians have scored game’s main goals in the third quarter finishing off 4:1 and having a four-goal difference at the beginning of the last quarter – 6:2.


Women’s Water Polo Team of Russia, including three athletes from South Urals, has won a tricky victory over Great Britain resulting 7:6 in the first match of the water polo preliminary round at 2012 London Olympics.

Both teams were equally strong and geared up for winning. In the third quarter Russian water polo players have shot ahead and managed to keep the winning score up till the end of match. 


So far, sport federations of 10 European countries have officially applied to participate in the U19 European Women’s Water Polo Championships to be held in Chelyabinsk on September 9-16, 2012, organizing committee informs.

The first National team to apply, already in the beginning of July, was the Netherlands’ team. Next to confirm their participation were the teams of France and Greece. The other day the organizing committee received an application from Team Ukraine. The only country the committee is waiting for is Turkey.


At 2012 Summer Olympic Games, scheduled to take place in London starting July 27 to August 12, Chelyabinsk region will be represented by 14 athletes performing in eight types of sport.

Chelyabinsk Started Production of the European Championships Mascot Dolls

More than a thousand mascot dolls of the European Water Polo Championships are expected to be produced in Chelyabinsk by the end of the month. Local handy tailors daily sew soft toys of the little girl-ball mascot. Very soon the craftsmen of the puppet theatre pros workshop will start working on the life-size doll.

Today the organizing committee members have presented the U19 European Women’s Water Polo Championships mascot. A cute girl-ball will join the event guests to watch the games. Moreover, the official Championships web-site was launched today.

Chelyabinsk has discovered the image of the European Water Polo Championships mascot. From the very first second of her appearance a bright-orange smiling blonde girl-ball has won approval.
